4 Weeks and Counting!!!!!!!

So today marks four weeks until my show! I booked the space this week and that means I've got a lot of work to do! For everyone in Savannah the show will be October 26th at the Dollhouse Productions Warehouse(More info and directions to come!). Since it's so close to Halloween I've decided to combine my show with a post-show Halloween dance Party! Everything is in the works, but currently I'm in search of some local Savannah bands and DJ's to keep the fun going all night!

Here's just a little of what I've been working on the past couple weeks...

This is my most recent piece, it's still in progress but almost there!

Project Update!

Yesterday my Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded meaning soon I will be able to move full force painting and getting ready for my first solo show.
Thanks to everyone who showed their support, I couldn't have done it with out you!
Here is a little insight into my second sub-series which I'm currently calling the mermaids, inspired by Klimt. This series in the very early stages and I've only been able to briefly work on it until I'm able to buy more painting/printing supplies. For this series of paintings I'm working in a very process oriented way. First I took photos of my models wearing a costume that I projected my own hand drawn patterns on.

I can then turn those photos into a black and white transparency used for burning a screen printing screen. I plan to utilize just the patterns for the screen printing part, go back in with many layers of paint then the faces will be the last step.

Still a lot of work to go but I'm enthusiastic about the end results!

Progress Update

As promised here are some in progress images of my most recent painting from the "sub-series" Natural/Nature. I'm going to have a total of six similar paintings as this one. I have to wait until I can buy more wood to build the stretchers before I can start on the others. But I'm really excited!
Hope you enjoy!

Getting Inspired

Recently I have been looking at a lot of Jean-Michel Basquiat and contemporary African art to get some inspiration.

It's Been a While....

Well like always I have neglected my blog but as it gets closer to me organizing my first solo show I have decided to devote more time to letting people know what's going on in my art life. First thing I'll say is that I just recently launched my KickStarter which you can check out HERE... This will allow me to organize my show. To Everyone who has already backed me, Thank You and I hope you enjoy watching the process of my work come together! And everyone else too!

Within my over all series (Artifice/Artifact) I plan to have several sub-series and then there will be one video installation. The first sub-series which I have been working on is a more abstracted series and the images you will see below are illustrative of this.

To start the process of creating these types of works I start by making my own masks. Over the past seven months I have been researching masks and looking at images from all around the world. I used a lot of this inspiration to fuse together traditional ideas with more futuristic design.
Then once I construct the mask I photograph myself moving in them to get a sense of movement and just to see the mask from different angles. I then began to break down the image through series of drawings, each time getting more and more abstract. I then reconstruct the drawings into new forms.

Some of the abstract series incorporates screen printing which will probably pop up in some of the other sub-series as well. I also enjoy working in a very layered process, often painting over and repainting three-four times. Once I mostly complete this series I will move on to the next sub-series then come back and finish up nay loose ends after I have had some time to step back and get a fresh view.

The next sub-series is my natural/nature series and will be more figurative. Expect to start seeing in progress photos from that next week!
